      Calls to 000: the rule that decides

      Since October 28, 2024, Australian carriers must identify and block devices that can't call Triple Zero (000). Optus says devices need 4G 700 MHz and VoLTE. A "4G" label on a cheap import is not enough.

        Australia's 3G networks are switched off: TPG/Vodafone at the end of 2023 / early 2024, Telstra and Optus from October 28, 2024. Watches must support 4G with VoLTE, including emergency calls to 000.

          Not every carrier supports every watch.

          • Apple Watch: Optus, Telstra and Vodafone.
          • Apple Watch For Your Kids: Telstra, with a kids watch plan.
          • Pixel Watch LTE: Telstra and Optus.
          • Galaxy Watch LTE: Telstra, Optus and Vodafone. Optus and Vodafone may need a Samsung phone (partly confirmed).
          • Spacetalk Adventurer 2: nano-SIM plan plus the $5.99/mo app; sold by Telstra and Optus.

          Health features in Australia

          Most, but not all, Apple health features are available.

          • Apple: ECG and irregular rhythm notifications. Sleep apnoea notifications are not available in Australia.
          • Samsung ECG: available, but needs a Galaxy phone.
          • Garmin ECG: available since January 2025.
